Geelong CBD welcomes weekday free parking
From 14 July, drivers parking in central Geelong will benefit from a new free two-hour session on weekdays at all 2P on-street parking spaces.
The initiative was adopted as part of the City of Greater Geelong’s 2025–26 Budget, passed at the June Council Meeting. The decision is designed to revitalise the CBD and make it easier for locals and visitors to access shops, services and events without worrying about parking costs.
Councillor Eddy Kontelj said the change was the result of sustained community advocacy.
“We really believe this measure will improve convenience and accessibility for the community when they visit central Geelong,” said Cr Kontelj. “This decision supports shoppers, families and visitors by giving them two hours to shop, dine, run errands, meet with friends or see an exhibition without having to worry about parking fees.”
The move is part of the Council’s wider strategy to stimulate economic growth and encourage foot traffic in the heart of Geelong. It is expected to boost customer engagement for small businesses and provide a more welcoming experience for both residents and tourists.
