Free Pads and Tampsons
Victorians now have access to free pads and tampons at a growing number of train stations, with the Allan Government expanding its statewide vending machine program.
The latest rollout includes Werribee Station, where a new unit has been installed in the public bathrooms to support women and girls who may be caught off guard while travelling.
The program also extends to nearby stations such as Newport and Footscray, providing additional access points along key western corridors used heavily by Wyndham commuters.
Other major stations across Melbourne, including Flinders Street, North Melbourne, Melbourne Central, Flagstaff and Essendon, are also part of the expansion.
Train stations are some of Victoria’s busiest public spaces, and the availability of free period products is intended to help women—particularly teenagers—continue their day without disruption.
Government data shows one in five women and girls report not being able to afford period products every month.
Since the initiative began in November 2024, more than 310,000 packs have been dispensed.
The broader program has delivered more than 760 machines statewide across libraries, TAFEs, sports centres, community facilities and hospitals through a $23 million investment.
