In short:
School holidays are here, and there are plenty of ways to keep the kids occupied without spending a fortune. Some free activities across Wyndham could also help get them away from the screens.
Great Time To Get Out And About
School holidays can mean plenty of extra screen time, but there are also some free ways to get the kids out of the house and doing something different across Wyndham.
From table tennis and LEGO to exploring local birdlife, here are three activities on offer during the holidays.
Table Tennis At Eagle Stadium
Children and teenagers aged eight to 18 can try table tennis for free at Eagle Stadium in Werribee on 24 September.
Run by Active Wyndham with the Werribee Table Tennis Association, the sessions include coaching on holding a bat, serving, striking the ball and learning the rules, followed by time to play.
Two sessions are available, from 9am to 9.55am and 10am to 10.55am, with participants able to register for one session only.
Bookings are required, and parents must remain at the facility. Participants should bring water and wear comfortable clothing and sports shoes.
Bird Watching At Wyndham Park
Kids aged five to 10 can get outdoors and explore Wyndham Park with NatureWest during a guided bird-watching walk.
Participants will make bird identification cards before walking through the park to spot species living among the trees and along the Werribee River.
The walk covers up to 1.5 kilometres, with children required to be accompanied by an adult. Families should meet under the orange footbridge in Wyndham Park and bring a hat, water bottle and sunscreen.
LEGO Plus At Tarneit
For something creative, Julia Gillard Library Tarneit is running free LEGO Plus sessions every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm.
Children aged five to 12 can use LEGO and another construction material to design, build and free play.
Upcoming sessions are on 24 September and 1, 8, 15 and 22 October.
Families can drop in anytime between 4pm and 5pm, with parents or caregivers required to stay and supervise.
