National Trends

The ACCC’s latest report found that average retail petrol prices decreased across all capital cities and most regional areas in Australia. In the five largest cities—Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth—the average price was 179.8 cents per litre (cpl), down by 3.0 cpl from the previous quarter.

This decrease is attributed to lower international refined petrol prices, driven by reduced global crude oil costs. Factors influencing the decline include slowing demand and increased supply from OPEC and non-OPEC countries. In regional areas, the average petrol price dropped to 179.5 cpl, slightly lower than metropolitan averages.

Fuel Prices in Wyndham City

Despite the national decrease, some Wyndham residents continue to face higher petrol costs. On 19 February 2025, the highest recorded unleaded fuel price in the western suburbs reached 199.9 cpl in areas such as Wyndham Vale and Rockbank. As of 25 February 2025, fuel prices varied across Wyndham Vale:

  • BP Wyndham Vale: Diesel – 196.9 cpl, Premium Diesel – 196.9 cpl, LPG – 92.9 cpl.

  • Better Choice Wyndham Vale: Unleaded E10 – 169.9 cpl, Unleaded 91 – 171.9 cpl, Diesel – 191.9 cpl, Premium Diesel – 191.9 cpl, LPG – 89.5 cpl.

  • EG Ampol Wyndham Vale: Unleaded 91 – 171.9 cpl, Unleaded 95 – 186.9 cpl, Unleaded 98 – 195.9 cpl, Premium Diesel – 196.9 cpl.

  • 7-Eleven Mambourin: Unleaded 91 – 199.9 cpl, Premium Diesel – 189.9 cpl, Unleaded 98 – 222.9 cpl, Unleaded 95 – 214.9 cpl.

Government Response and Consumer Advice

To combat rising fuel costs, the Victorian government has introduced the Fair Fuel Plan. This initiative seeks to address the impact of the recent fuel excise increase from 49.6 cents to 50.6 cents per litre, effective 2 February 2025.

The ACCC continues to monitor fuel prices and encourages motorists to use price-tracking apps to find the best deals. According to the commission, consumer engagement with fuel price comparison tools has increased from 34% in 2022 to 41% in 2024.

With prices varying significantly between fuel stations, Wyndham motorists are urged to compare prices and take advantage of competitive options to save on fuel costs.
