Gearing Up for International Women’s Day Celebrations

International Women's Day in Wyndham

Wyndham City is preparing to acknowledge International Women’s Day (8 March) with a lineup of events and activities aimed at honouring the females in our community.

The festivities will commence with the Count ME In! community event at the Women’s Micro Business Hub in Hoppers Crossing on Monday 4 March. This event will feature workshops and a networking lunch.

A special Women in Business lunch will take place on Friday 8 March at Werribee’s Holiday Inn, where Wyndham businesswomen will be recognized. The event will be headlined by keynote speaker Dr. Morley Muse, founder of iSTEM Co – a business focusing on research, consulting, and talent-sourcing in STEM fields, particularly empowering women’s employment in these areas.

Simultaneously, an afternoon tea will be held at the Manor Lakes Youth Space on the same day, aimed at encouraging young people aged between 12-25 to participate in celebrating the occasion.

Wyndham’s library branches will also join in the festivities by curating special book displays and collections featuring relevant International Women’s Day literature and resources.

Speaking about these activities, Wyndham City Mayor, and Councillor Jennie Barrera, emphasized their alignment with the International Women’s Day 2024 theme “Inspire Inclusion” and the United Nations Australia theme “Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.”

“International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality,” said Cr Barrera.

“It is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.”

“Everyone, everywhere can play a part in helping forge gender equality, and Wyndham City is proud to support International Women’s Day and to champion the girls and women in our community.”
