Grants Supporting Multicultural Media to Amplify Diverse Voices Across Victoria

Media Grants

Up to $25,000 available to help multicultural media organisations improve production, expand audience reach, and support volunteers and staff training.

Multicultural media organisations are receiving support to continue their vital role in reflecting the diverse voices, stories, and experiences of Victorian communities, while providing access to essential information.

Grants of up to $25,000 will be available through the 2024-25 Multicultural Media Grants program to assist multicultural media organisations across the state. Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt emphasised the importance of these grants, stating, “This investment helps our multicultural media organisations to continue their role in amplifying the voices, stories, and experiences of our vibrant state.”

The grants will help cover costs related to production and publication, equipment upgrades, and training and development for volunteers and staff. This funding aims to provide multicultural media organisations with the resources needed to improve their service quality and expand their audience reach.

In the most recent round of funding, an African media group in Wyndham received a grant to train their contributors in digital storytelling and the production of videos and podcasts, extending their audience reach across Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Dunya Turkish Newspaper, based in Melbourne’s Turkish community in Hume, was able to purchase new equipment to enhance the quality of their production and outreach to the Turkish-speaking community.

Sunraysia Community Radio Association in Mildura received funding to train more volunteer presenters, increasing the number of people from multicultural communities able to present their own shows.

Since 2014, more than $4.4 million has been invested through the Multicultural Media Grants program, supporting over 100 multicultural media outlets across the state.

Applications for the grants open on 11 October 2024 and close on 8 November 2024.
