Wyndham residents are being invited to have their say on a new disability plan that will guide Council’s approach to accessibility and inclusion over the next three years.
The Draft Wyndham Disability Plan 2026-2029 is now open for public feedback until 27 September, before returning to Council for final adoption.
The plan replaces the Accessibility and Inclusion Plan 2023-2025 and has been developed following consultation with people living with disability, carers, service providers and other community stakeholders.
An additional 100 community members contributed through surveys and seven engagement opportunities during its development.
Council says feedback received during the public exhibition period will be used to refine the plan before it is expected to return to the Council Chamber for adoption on 27 October.
Four Major Focus Areas Have Been Proposed
Four strategic directions are proposed, covering health, safety and wellbeing; inclusive access; housing, education and employment; and empowering community recognition.
Issues identified through earlier consultation include accessible transport and infrastructure, accessible housing, mental health, employment, protection from abuse and better access to information.
Residents also highlighted the importance of interpreters, Easy English materials, digital tools and assistive technology, along with stronger support for carers and people navigating complex service systems.
The plan is intended to guide Council initiatives between 2026 and 2029, with a focus on removing barriers and improving opportunities for people living with disability to participate in civic, social and economic life.
