In short:
Victorians can have their say on the future of the MCG as a new business case considers potential upgrades to the iconic Melbourne stadium. Public consultation on the future of the G is open until 13 September 2026.
Don't Miss Out On Process
Victorians are being asked what they want the future of the MCG to look like as early planning begins for potential changes to the home of football.
The G has been at the heart of Victorian sport for generations, hosting AFL Grand Finals, Boxing Day Tests, international sporting events and some of Melbourne’s biggest concerts.
Now, Victorians have the chance to help shape what comes next, with public consultation open as part of the MCG Redevelopment Business Case.
The business case will assess the current condition of the stadium and consider potential upgrades to ensure it continues to meet the needs of spectators, athletes and major events for decades to come.
The work could examine changes to the stadium’s stands and facilities, as well as how any future construction could be staged and delivered.
No decision has been made on whether the MCG will be redeveloped or what any redevelopment would ultimately involve.
Architectus, Foster + Partners and MANICA are working alongside AECOM on the business case, providing advice on planning, stand construction and potential timelines.
A 2024 study found more than four million people attended 69 major events at the MCG, including more than 620,000 visitors from outside Victoria. Those events were estimated to generate $720 million for the Victorian economy and support 7,500 full-time equivalent jobs.
The public survey is open until 13 September 2026, with Victorians able to provide feedback through Engage Victoria.
