Yesterday, Melton Highway Patrol officers confiscated a vehicle from a driver going at an excessive speed in Mount Cottrell.
The driver, a 61–year–old man, was travelling at 162km/h in a zone with a speed limit of 80km/h. As police were catching up to the car, they noticed a stubby flying out the window.
The man admitted to throwing the bottle in an attempt to hide it from police. He passed a preliminary breath test.
Charges for driving offences and unlawfully depositing litter are expected to be brought against the Alboin driver, who will also pay a towing fee of $995 after his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
The impoundment was part of Operation Arid, a campaign intended to reduce road fatalities over the Labour Day long weekend.
