According to investigators, two individuals armed with machetes exited the vehicle and approached a 20-year-old man who had just parked his Kia Sorento. The suspects then allegedly assaulted the man and stole his keys and car before fleeing the scene.

Police were notified and the stolen vehicles were spotted on the Calder Freeway heading towards the city. The Air Wing was called in and followed the cars until tire deflation devices could be safely deployed. The pursuit continued to Keilor, where the devices were successfully deployed on the Kia on Keilor Park Drive.

The two occupants of the Kia abandoned the car at a nearby service station and fled on foot into a nearby cemetery. Police cordoned off the area and with the assistance of the Air Wing, directed members of the Dog Squad and Critical Incident Response Team to the location of the suspects.

A 16-year-old boy from Hoppers Crossing and a 17-year-old boy from St Albans were taken into custody and are currently assisting police with their investigations. The stolen Corolla and its occupants have yet to be located and arrested.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
