Hoppers Crossing Warehouse Targeted in Fiery Ram Raid

Warehouse fire Hoppers Crossing

Early Morning Havoc: Ram Raid Ignites Warehouse, Part of Escalating Tobacco Industry Conflict in Melbourne

A Hoppers Crossing business became the scene of a dramatic ram raid and fire early this morning, marking another chapter in Melbourne’s so-called tobacco wars.

Emergency services rushed to the Barakat International Goods warehouse on Costas Drive shortly after 5 a.m., following reports that a vehicle had reversed into the building, breaching the security gate and roller door before setting ablaze.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered the entrance and vehicle engulfed in flames. They managed to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes, and a community information message was issued due to smoke in the vicinity.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious and have launched an investigation.

This is not the first time the warehouse has been targeted; it suffered minor fire damage on June 11, the same day another tobacco shop on Tarneit Road in Werribee was attacked.

These incidents suggest a pattern of targeted attacks within the tobacco industry, affecting not just Wyndham but extending across Melbourne.
