Bali and a New Bus Route For Avalon
Melbourne Avalon Airport is set for a major revival, with new international and domestic routes and improved public transport connections to begin in 2026.
From March next year, Jetstar will launch its first international service from Avalon to Bali, alongside new flights to Adelaide and extra services to Brisbane — adding more than 330,000 low-fare seats annually to and from Melbourne’s secondary airport.
International flights have not operated from Avalon since March 2020, when they were suspended during the pandemic. The new Bali route, commencing 23 March 2026, will operate five return flights each week, while Adelaide services begin 26 March with up to seven weekly flights. Five additional Brisbane flights will also be added.
The Victorian Government has also announced a new Route 18 bus, connecting Avalon Airport and its employment precinct to Lara Station, operating seven days a week.
Jetstar chief executive Stephanie Tully said the expansion represents a major boost for the region.
“Whether it’s a family holiday in Bali or a weekend away in Adelaide or Brisbane, these services give Victorians even more options to take off more, for less,” Ms Tully said.
“This investment will see thousands more customers fly through Melbourne’s second airport gateway, supporting the economic growth of Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula.”
Avalon Airport CEO Ari Suss said the return of international services was a milestone moment.
“The Avalon–Jetstar partnership is now into its 22nd year and this renewed partnership both in domestic and international services will deliver more frequency, better connections, and the ability for people between Melbourne and Geelong to start their journey closer to home,” Mr Suss said.
The redevelopment and route expansion signal a new phase for Avalon as it positions itself as a major alternative hub for the west and southwest of Victoria.
