Police arrested 21 people and seized cash, drugs, alcohol, and gaming equipment in a raid on an alleged high-end illegal casino in Truganina.
The Westgate Divisional Response Unit had been investigating the unlicensed casino on Leader Street, where attendees paid a minimum of $ 8,000 to participate. The operation, requiring a planned search warrant, revealed an unlicensed bar serving alcohol and drug possession among patrons.
The 35-year-old alleged operator faces charges including conducting unauthorized gambling, advertising the same, and liquor-related offences. Other attendees will also be charged with being in unauthorized gambling premises, consuming liquor without a license, and drug possession.
The police were assisted by various units during the operation, including the VIPER Taskforce and Drone Unit. The authorities are collaborating with the Victorian Gaming and Casino Control Commission to ensure industry regulations.
The offence of unauthorized gambling can lead to two years imprisonment or a $192,000 fine. For information on illegal gambling, contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
