The group held signs reading “Justice for Natan Mwanza”, with attendees joining in prayer and spiritual songs. The emotional event saw tears shed as family, friends, and supporters paid their respects. Mayor Mia Shaw and Cr. Jenny Barrera were present, offering condolences to those mourning.
The group were expected to walk to Haines Drive in Wyndham Vale with a police escort.

Community Vigil Following Fatal Attack
The gathering followed a larger memorial held the night before, where around 1,000 mourners came together at Haines Drive, Wyndham Vale, near the bus stop where 23-year-old Natan Mwanza was killed on February 19.
Mwanza, a successful model from Werribee, was allegedly punched, kicked, and stabbed in a brutal attack near his family home. CCTV footage captured the incident, which reportedly began as a fight on a bus before continuing onto a nature strip.
The incident occurred while Mwanza was travelling on the 192 bus route between Wyndham Vale and Werribee Railway Station.
At the vigil, mourners carried candles and photos of Mwanza as floral tributes were placed at the site. Family members expressed their grief and frustration, calling for justice.
Family Speaks Out
Natan’s father, Samuel Mwanza, addressed the crowd, urging action to prevent further violence.
“If they want blood, they must go in the forest and hunt animals, not human beings,” he said.
“Today it’s Natan, tomorrow it’s somebody else.
They say they’re just children — a child does not hold a knife.
For this to stop, we need justice.”

His younger brother described Mwanza as a “kind soul”, remembering him as the comedian of the family and a role model.
“My big brother was very sweet, funny, the comedian of the family,” he said.
“He was my role model.
Not only do I want or need justice for my big brother, I demand it.”

He also shared a heartbreaking detail about how Natan was meant to attend his wedding—a moment that will now never come.
Following the speeches, family members linked arms and walked with mourners toward their home, stopping to arrange candles in the shape of Natan’s name in a nearby park.
Ongoing Investigation & Legal Proceedings
A 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man have been charged with Mwanza’s murder. Police attended the vigil to ensure the event remained peaceful.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad are appealing for two male passengers to come forward who are believed to have witnessed the assault that resulted in Natan’s death.
Before his death, Mwanza had established himself in the modelling industry, featuring in campaigns for Nike, Realism, Champion, and Hype DC.
The Wyndham community continues to call for justice, with friends and supporters demanding accountability for those responsible.
