In short:
The $10.1 million K Road reconstruction is complete, rebuilding a 2.8-kilometre stretch between Duncans Road and K Road Cliffs with a new intersection at Main Drive, a shared user path, and upgraded bus stop connections, improving access to Werribee South’s major tourist attractions.
A long-awaited upgrade finished
Wyndham City Council has officially completed the K Road reconstruction, a $10.1 million project delivered under the Connecting Wyndham priority program.
The works have rebuilt a 2.8-kilometre section of K Road between Duncans Road and K Road Cliffs, adding sealed shoulders along the route and a redesigned intersection at Main Drive. The upgrade is designed to boost access to and from some of Werribee South’s biggest drawcards, including the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Park Mansion and the Victoria State Rose Garden.
What’s changed on K Road
Beyond the resurfaced road itself, the project has added a shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists running alongside K Road, along with improved connections to upgraded bus stops in the area. It follows a $2.2 million upgrade to the nearby Werribee South boat ramp, another recent infrastructure investment in the area.
The completion also marks the overall finish of the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project. That broader project delivered a new cliff-top walking path, viewing platforms, a staircase down to the river, interpretive signage and drainage works at the K Road Cliffs.
Mayor: safer roads for residents and tourists
Wyndham City Mayor Mia Shaw said the upgrade delivers safer roads and better access to key tourism destinations in Werribee South.
“Reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety remains a key focus for Council, and the K Road reconstruction makes it easier and safer for Wyndham residents and tourists to travel to and from Werribee South,” Cr Shaw said.
“This transformative upgrade is the second major project we’ve delivered as part of our landmark Connecting Wyndham program, with two more critical upgrades underway and planning progressing on even more key transport links across our City.”
What’s next for Connecting Wyndham
With the K Road works finished, landscaping along the road will begin shortly. It’s the latest piece of a wider push to upgrade transport links across Wyndham, with several other major road projects moving ahead elsewhere in the municipality.
Council says residents can track the progress of Connecting Wyndham projects and other capital works through its Capital Works Dashboard.
