K-Road Werribee South

Boosting tourism in Werribee South

Wyndham City has officially awarded the construction contract for the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project, Werribee, marking an exciting milestone. The project involves a complete rebuild of the 2.8-kilometre section of K Road between Duncans Road and K Road Cliffs by BILD Infrastructure. Construction is scheduled to commence in the upcoming weeks.

The project, part of the transformative Connecting Wyndham initiative, will deliver a range of upgrades. These include an improved intersection at Main Drive to increase access to the bustling tourism precinct, a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists, and better connections to existing bus stops.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, expressed that this crucial upgrade would provide safer and easier access to and from Werribee South, including the Werribee South tourism precinct. “The K Road reconstruction is a significant investment in the future of Werribee South, aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility for all road users,” Cr Shaw stated.

The Mayor also highlighted that the upgraded intersection at Main Drive would improve access to and from major attractions such as the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Mansion, the National Equestrian Centre, and the Victoria State Rose Garden.

The reconstruction has been planned in stages to minimize traffic disruption and maintain access to properties, the Werribee South market gardens, and the tourism precinct. During construction, partial closures of K Road will occur in stages, with traffic management in place and one lane open at all times to ensure continued access to and from Werribee South.

The contractor will provide full two-way access to the Werribee Park precinct for major events to accommodate additional traffic and will make suitable adjustments to avoid traffic congestion. “No-one likes sitting in traffic, so please allow extra time when travelling to and from Werribee South as we deliver these essential works,” Cr Shaw advised.

The K Road reconstruction is the second stage in the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project. The first stage, which includes a new cliff-top walking path, viewing platforms, a staircase leading down to the river, interpretive signage, and drainage works, is nearing completion.

Updates on the progress of the project can be monitored through Wyndham City’s Capital Works Dashboard at www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/capitalworksdashboard. The construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
