In a comprehensive emergency operation in Werribee spanning more than two hours on January 10th, authorities responded to an incident at Bungies Hole on the Werribee River, where a man reportedly swam to an island the previous night under the influence and found himself unable to return.
The stranded individual allegedly spent the night on the island and was heard calling out for help as morning broke. A vigilant nearby resident promptly contacted emergency services, including the State Emergency Service (SES), prompting a rapid initiation of rescue operations.

The stranded man, found relaxing on the island, awaited assistance, and as time elapsed, additional support was summoned. A small dinghy was deployed to aid in the ongoing rescue operation. Police officers, suited up for the task, were transported to the island, providing the stranded man with a life jacket before safely escorting him to the dinghy and back to the shore.
Upon reaching safety, paramedics assessed the man’s condition. Despite potential signs of a hangover, as suggested by a local observer, he appeared to be generally okay. Additionally, it’s noted that swimming is no longer permitted in what was once a popular swimming hole back in the 1950s.
