Laverton dates back to 1886 and is home to one of Australia’s oldest RAAF bases, established in 1926 and operating for 70 years before its airfield closed in 1996. Much of the surrounding housing was built for RAAF families and postwar workers, giving Laverton a long-standing, close-knit community alongside its industrial precinct.
