Bacchus Marsh Transforms into Hollywood Set as Liam Neeson Films The Mongoose

Hollywood action star Liam Neeson is back in Victoria, filming his latest thriller The Mongoose, with Bacchus Marsh taking centre stage as one of the film’s key locations. The production transforms parts of the regional town into stand-ins for various U.S. states, including Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas.

This marks Neeson’s third project in Victoria in the past four years, reinforcing the state’s growing appeal as an international film destination. The movie follows Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, played by Neeson, a war hero falsely accused of a crime, who becomes the subject of a high-speed televised chase across the U.S.

Bacchus Marsh, with its diverse landscapes, provides the perfect backdrop for the film’s high-octane sequences. Other regional areas will also feature, alongside scenes shot in Melbourne. The production is based at the Melbourne Screen Hub in Footscray and is expected to bring over $19 million into the Victorian economy, creating hundreds of local jobs and benefiting around 150 businesses.

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks welcomed the film’s impact on the local screen sector, noting that Victoria is attracting more major productions. Neeson also praised the professionalism of Victorian crews, saying they are among the best he has worked with.

Directed by Mark Vanselow, The Mongoose is supported by VicScreen’s Victorian Screen Rebate and the Australian government’s Location Offset. With filming well underway, Bacchus Marsh is once again proving itself as a prime location for international productions.
