Local Events Celebrate Women

Wyndham is marking International Women’s Day on 8 March with community events across Werribee and surrounding suburbs celebrating women’s achievements and highlighting the ongoing push for gender equality.

Women Recognised Locally

Wyndham is preparing to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March with a line-up of local events designed to celebrate, connect and uplift women and girls across the community.

International Women’s Day is both a celebration and a reminder. It honours the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while acknowledging that gender inequality remains a reality in workplaces, homes and public life.

This year’s United Nations Australia theme, #BalanceTheScales, focuses on pushing for fairer outcomes and faster progress.

Across Wyndham, the tone is less about speeches and more about shared experience.

One event, I’m With Her, promises “a thrilling real-life demonstration of the power of women to outlast, outwit, and out-muscle the great ugly beast of sexism.”

It leans into humour and resilience, reflecting the reality that many women still navigate bias in everyday life.

For those looking to connect professionally, the International Women’s Day: Women in Business celebration will be held at The Refectory at Werribee Park.

The morning event highlights women in business and entrepreneurship, while also recognising the barriers many continue to face in leadership and enterprise.

Their Stories, Our Community offers something more personal. The session brings together local women who are shaping Wyndham in quiet and powerful ways, sharing how they create change in neighbourhoods, workplaces and volunteer spaces.

Comedian, writer and presenter Claire Hooper will also headline a special International Women’s Day event, blending humour with insight — a reminder that celebrating women can be joyful as well as meaningful.

While progress has been made, women still experience pay gaps, under-representation in leadership and unequal caring responsibilities.

International Women’s Day offers a moment to gather, reflect and support one another — whether that’s through business, storytelling, laughter or simple solidarity.

For women across Werribee, Point Cook, Tarneit, Hoppers Crossing and beyond, it’s an opportunity to mark the day locally, in spaces that feel familiar and community-driven.
