Long Wait Ends: Wyndham Law Courts Opening Date Confirmed

Wyndham Law Courts

In short:

The long-delayed Wyndham Law Courts will finally open in November, following earlier funding setbacks. The $275 million project will deliver Victoria’s largest suburban justice precinct, improving access to legal services for Werribee and surrounding suburbs.

Operational funding finally secures court opening.

After years of planning delays and funding uncertainty, the Wyndham Law Courts are finally set to open in the second week of November.

The state-of-the-art facility will form part of the broader Wyndham Justice Precinct, located in central Werribee alongside the Werribee Police Complex. Both the courts and the police station are described as the largest of their kind outside Melbourne’s CBD — a major step forward in expanding justice infrastructure across the western suburbs.

The new courts will provide a long-awaited local venue for legal proceedings, sparing residents the need to travel to neighbouring municipalities for hearings. The complex includes modern courtrooms, safety upgrades for staff and the public, and technology designed to improve accessibility for victims, witnesses, and legal professionals.

The project has not been without controversy. Earlier this year, Wyndham TV reported on the $275 million funding delays surrounding the courts’ operational readiness, after the 2025/26 State Budget failed to initially allocate funding for staffing and operations. The issue prompted widespread concern among community members and legal advocates who questioned why such a major facility had been built but left unopened.

Operational funding was eventually confirmed in the State Budget, paving the way for the courts to begin functioning before the end of 2025. The government has framed the opening as part of its broader commitment to community safety and ensuring residents have fair and timely access to justice.

With the Wyndham Law Courts now set to open, the region is expected to benefit from improved access to justice services and reduced case backlogs. The development marks a major milestone for one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, delivering long-promised infrastructure at the heart of Werribee’s civic precinct.
