Crime Scene JD Clothing

In short:

A violent fight involving machetes erupted at Pacific Werribee on 7 August, with blood found at multiple stores and two males later hospitalised. A witness described the terrifying moment youths clashed and weapons were drawn.

Blood Found After Shopping Centre Brawl

Police are investigating a violent incident at Pacific Werribee shopping centre in Hoppers Crossing, reported around 6.40pm on 7 August.

The fight is believed to have started inside JD Sports, where a group of youths became involved in a physical altercation. Witnesses reported seeing machetes during the clash, and blood was later found outside JD Sports and inside Kmart.

A shopper who witnessed the event told Wyndham TV, “So me and my older brother were going to get dinner at the food court walking past Foot Locker and there had to be around 12 kids where it happened. Five walked out of the store and we heard yelling. I look over and I see islanders running at three dark individuals and then there was a big fight. I seen one of the dark individuals fall to the ground — I think he got knocked out but not sure. Then we seen them all run out and the islanders pulled out huge machetes and they started swinging. I didn’t see anything else because I got too scared and ran, but I did think I seen one of the dark individuals holding his arm right before I ran off.”

By the time police arrived, those involved had left and no victims came forward at the scene. A crime scene was established and officers interviewed multiple witnesses.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, the shopping centre remained open to the public, with only JD Sports temporarily closing.

A short time later, two males presented at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, believed to be connected to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stopperson 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
