Gang forces entry with bricks and machetes

Police are investigating a violent home invasion on Mailrun Court, Hoppers Crossing, in which several masked offenders armed with machetes forced their way into a house and assaulted a male occupant.

It is believed the offenders arrived at the address about 10.30pm on Wednesday 29 July. The homeowners, who had moved into the court just two months earlier, had gone to bed when the attack began.

Offenders threw bricks through windows and used machetes to damage them further, before eventually forcing entry through a bathroom window.

Couple hide as attackers smash through bedroom door

The husband and wife attempted to hide in the front room of the house as the offenders moved through the property. The attackers smashed a hole through their bedroom door to reach them.

The man was struck in the side of the head and had his mobile phone stolen. A second phone was also taken. The offenders went on to smash a television and a laptop inside the home. The woman was not injured.

It is not the first time Hoppers Crossing residents have been targeted in a violent break-in, with a woman assaulted in a separate Hoppers Crossing home invasion on Whitsunday Drive just days earlier.

Vehicle also damaged before offenders flee

Before leaving, the offenders used a machete to damage the windows of a vehicle parked in the driveway. They then fled the scene in a white vehicle.

Investigation ongoing

Police believe the victims and offenders are not known to each other, and the investigation is continuing.

It follows a run of serious offences in Hoppers Crossing in recent weeks, including a man charged over a string of sexual assaults in the suburb, and comes just weeks after a local man was charged following a machete and samurai sword-armed home invasion.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or holds any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
