Offenders Force Entry, Threaten Residents
Police are investigating a home invasion in Truganina after a group of male offenders forced their way into a property on Fiore Way.
The incident happened about 9pm on Tuesday 11 August, when the group gained access to the home and made threats towards residents inside.
Machete Held To Resident’s Throat
During the incident, one of the home’s occupants had a machete held against his throat.
The occupant received a minor injury and did not require hospital treatment.
Police believe the offenders stole jewellery and other belongings from the property before leaving.
Offenders Flee In Silver Commodore
The group is believed to have fled the address in a silver Holden Commodore.
Despite a thorough search of the area, police did not locate the offenders. The investigation remains ongoing.
Part Of A Wider Pattern
It follows another violent home invasion in Truganina last year, and comes just weeks after a gang armed with machetes stormed a Hoppers Crossing home. The incident is also the latest in a run of home invasions across Wyndham’s north-west that included a stolen-car pursuit ending when offenders rammed four police cars at a Truganina service station.
Labor’s $13 Million Machete Bins Back In Focus
The invasion comes just over eight months after the Labor Government’s amnesty period ended, during which more than 40 $13 million machete disposal bins were installed at police stations across Victoria, including Werribee. The scheme drew public mockery when it launched, with locals questioning whether people misusing machetes would voluntarily hand them in.
Despite the machete sales ban and the bin scheme that followed, machetes have continued to turn up in violent crimes across Wyndham in the months since, including this week’s incident in Truganina.
