MAGA In Point Cook?

MAGA hat

In short:

A political party called The Republican Make Australia Great Again is seeking registration in Victoria, with a Point Cook address listed on its application. The proposal is now open to objections before a decision is made by the VEC.

Prospective Party Raises Eyebrows

Point Cook has emerged as the unlikely home of one of Victoria’s newest political party registration bids.

The Victorian Electoral Commission has received an application to register a political party called The Republican Make Australia Great Again.

According to documents published by the VEC, Raj Kumar Saini is listed as the proposed registered officer, with the party address recorded in Point Cook.

If approved, the party would become a registered political party in Victoria and be eligible to contest state elections.

The application was signed by the secretary of the party and was accompanied by the prescribed documentation and payment of the prescribed fee.

The proposed abbreviation of the party name is “The Republican”.

The VEC is now inviting objections to the proposed registration.

Under the Electoral Act 2002, objections may be lodged on several grounds, including whether the party is eligible for registration, whether the application complies with legislative requirements, or whether the proposed name should be refused.

Objections must be submitted to the VEC by 18 July.

The commission will consider any objections before determining whether the party will be registered.

While political parties regularly seek registration in Victoria, this application has drawn local attention due to its Point Cook connection and the party’s distinctive name.

The proposed party address listed in the application is located in Point Cook.
