In a crucial update for commuters, the outbound exit from the West Gate Freeway to the M80 Ring Road is set to be temporarily closed, creating significant delays for drivers. The closure is scheduled from 9 pm on Wednesday, January 10, until 7 am on Saturday, January 20, to facilitate essential works related to the West Gate Tunnel Project.
To minimize disruptions, motorists are strongly advised to plan ahead and exit early if their destination involves the M80 Ring Road. A recommended detour route includes Grieve Parade, Geelong Road, Little Boundary, and Boundary Roads. Missing this early exit will force drivers onto a lengthy 10 km detour via the Princes Freeway, requiring a U-turn at Kororoit Creek Road. Avoid last-minute lane changes to ensure a smooth and safe journey.
In addition to the exit closure, the first phase of final road surfacing works will lead to the temporary closure of one freeway lane in each direction between Millers Road and the M80 Ring Road. This closure will be in effect from 9 pm on Wednesday, January 10, to 5 am on Monday, March 4. Commuters traveling between the city and the western suburbs are encouraged to consider using public transport or allocate an extra 30 minutes for their car journey.
The ongoing works encompass essential tasks such as final resurfacing, asphalt installation, placement of freeway barriers, barrier painting, signage installation, and final line marking. Furthermore, the installation of 46 overhead gantries will continue along the West Gate Freeway, M80 Ring Road, and Princes Freeway during various overnight closures in the upcoming months.
Motorists are urged to stay informed about these disruptions, plan alternative routes, and exercise caution during this period to ensure a safe and efficient commute.
