The Intersection Upgrades Are Said to Improve Traffic Flow and Safety And Are Expected to Complete by End of 2024.

Major roadworks are set to commence on Point Cook Road in Point Cook at the end of June 2024, with an expected completion date by the end of the year. These works are part of a significant intersection upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.

Upcoming Nightworks

The project will kick off with nightworks to establish traffic management and make necessary changes along Point Cook Road, spanning from the Jamieson Way/Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard roundabout to Gramercy Boulevard. These initial steps will create a safe construction area while maintaining two-way traffic.

Key activities during this phase include:
– Installing concrete barriers along Point Cook Road.
– Modifying the concrete traffic island near Gramercy Boulevard.
– Realigning traffic with new line markings.

These nightworks are scheduled to last approximately one week, with crews working from 8 pm to 5 am to minimize traffic disruptions.

Impact on Traffic and Noise Levels

During the nightworks, drivers can expect lane closures and reduced speed limits on Point Cook Road. Traffic controllers and signage will ensure the flow of two-way traffic. Although noise levels will range from low to medium, efforts will be made to minimize disturbances. Property access will be maintained, with traffic controllers assisting residents as needed.

Public Transport Adjustments

The Point Cook Village/Point Cook Road bus stop will be temporarily closed starting Monday, June 17. Passengers are advised to use the alternative bus stop at Sanctuary Lakes Shopping Centre/Point Cook Road. Updates on public transport disruptions can be found on the Public Transport Victoria website.

Daytime Works to Follow

Following the setup of traffic management, daytime works will commence on the northbound lanes of Point Cook Road. These works will occur from Monday to Friday, between 7 am and 6 pm. Drivers should anticipate continued two-way traffic with reduced speed limits, temporary bus stop closures and relocations, and temporary footpath closures with signed detours for pedestrians.

Supporting Local Businesses

Throughout the construction period, local businesses will remain open. The community is encouraged to continue shopping locally to support traders during these essential upgrades.

Scope of Intersection Upgrades

The extensive upgrade of the Point Cook Road and Sneydes Road intersection includes:
– Installing new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
– Duplicating traffic lanes on Point Cook Road between Jamieson Way and Gramercy Boulevard.
– Resurfacing Point Cook Road within the project area.
– Upgrading the shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists.
– Updating line markings and street lighting.

To enhance safety, right-turn movements across Point Cook Road from Middle Park Drive and Point Cook Village will be eliminated. A “Keep Clear” marking will be installed at the Middle Park Drive intersection to facilitate entry onto Point Cook Road.

Permanent Traffic Changes

Vehicles exiting Point Cook Village towards Sneydes Road will need to turn left and use the Jamieson Way roundabout. Similarly, those exiting Middle Park Drive to travel towards Jamieson Way and Sanctuary Lakes Boulevard must turn left and make a U-turn at the new Sneydes Road signalized intersection.

The Point Cook Road project promises to deliver critical safety improvements and enhanced traffic flow. The community’s patience and understanding during this period are greatly appreciated. For the latest updates, residents are encouraged to visit the Public Transport Victoria website and follow on-site signage and traffic controller directions.
