Major Truganina Project Approved

Council has unanimously approved plans for a new mixed-use commercial development at 180 Palmers Road, Truganina, following a decision at the Planning Committee meeting on 14 July.

The development will include a four-storey office building with a ground-floor café and two restaurants, a two-storey gym, a trade supplies building and two standalone convenience restaurants. The project will be delivered across three stages.

The site, located at the corner of Palmers and Leakes roads, is within the Truganina Employment Precinct and is zoned for commercial development.

Council officers said the proposal was consistent with the Wyndham Planning Scheme and the Truganina Employment Precinct Structure Plan, supporting employment opportunities and economic growth in the area.

A total of 135 shared car parking spaces, including three accessible spaces, will be provided, along with bicycle parking and end-of-trip facilities. Vehicle access will be via the existing right of way shared with 211 Leakes Road.

The application includes a reduction in the statutory car parking requirement and a variation to bicycle parking requirements.

Council officers concluded the proposal was appropriate, subject to permit conditions, after assessing traffic, landscaping, sustainability, and amenity impacts.

The application was exempt from public notice because it was found to be generally in accordance with the Truganina Employment Precinct Structure Plan.

Councillors unanimously supported the officer recommendation to issue a planning permit for the development, subject to conditions.
