It’s alleged the man entered a number of businesses at the Pacific Werribee shopping complex just before 10.10 am and damaged a number of items.

Witnesses say the man entered the Telstra store and began smashing electronic equipment with a metal pole before moving to the Vodafone store and smashing equipment there.

Some of the damage at the Vodafone store.

On his way to the Optus store a member of the public grabbed the man and tackled him to the ground, and called for other members of the public to assist.

Other members of the public ran in to assist and held the offender down.

Security guards then arrived, followed shortly by police.

A 31-year-old man was taken into custody by police.

One of the store workers said, “The assailant seemed aggressive and as if he had no hidden agenda; he just laughed hysterically as he committed the act all the way through to being detained.”

The man remains in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Both the Telstra store and the Vodafone store were closed for several hours after the incident. Wyndham TV attempted to phone centre management at Pacific Werribee for comment, but there was no answer.
