It is alleged that police were patrolling Synnot Street at around 9pm on Thursday 23 February when they noticed a car driving erratically.

The officers followed the car and watched as it supposedly drove onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a passing vehicle before going onto Derrimut Road.

A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle was tracked to a shopping centre carpark, where it crashed into two cars and a Dog Squad vehicle. The driver then attempted to flee but was apprehended.

He was taken to hospital under police guard and a police dog was taken to a vet, receiving facial and leg injuries in the collision, before being released.

The man, from Maidstone, has been charged with a number of offences and was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 6 April.
