High-Speed Police Chase Through Wyndham Suburbs Leads to Multiple Charges for Hoppers Crossing Man

A 40-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing has been charged with multiple driving offences after a high-speed police chase through several Wyndham suburbs.


According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 4th when officers spotted a Toyota Hiace van allegedly speeding through the streets of Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Werribee, and Tarneit.

The van was first seen travelling east on Sayers Road in Tarneit at around 11:30 pm. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver reportedly fled and actively avoided police.

During the pursuit, the van was allegedly clocked at speeds of up to 130km/h and was monitored by the Air Wing. Eventually, stop sticks were successfully deployed at the intersection of Hacketts and Sneydes roads.

The driver then allegedly abandoned the van at a railway station carpark in Tarneit and fled on foot. However, he was apprehended a short time later by police.

The 40-year-old man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and other driving offences. He was remanded to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on June 5th.
