Man Charged After Reckless High-Speed Pursuit in Stolen Car Through Melbourne's West.

A man has been arrested and charged following a police pursuit of a stolen car in Melbourne’s west.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday, July 22, when police spotted a silver Hyundai i30 with stolen number plates on Point Cook Road in Point Cook around 9:30pm. As officers prepared to intercept the vehicle, it sped off at a high rate of speed.

The police Air Wing then followed the car as it drove recklessly at speeds of up to 160 km/h through Point Cook, Laverton North, and Deer Park. Eventually, stop sticks were successfully deployed at two different locations, causing the car to come to a stop in the vicinity of Millbank Drive in Deer Park.

Police called in canine units to search for the two occupants of the car, who had fled on foot. One suspect, a 28-year-old man from Deer Park, was found attempting to hide in a nearby creek. He has since been charged with multiple offenses, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, and theft of a motor vehicle.

The 28-year-old suspect has been bailed to appear in court on August 16, while the search for the second occupant of the car continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
