The Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 35–year–old Wyndham Vale man with multiple offences, including culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death, after a fatal crash in Point Cook on the 2nd of March.
Allegedly, the law enforcement officers had previously spotted the vehicle travelling erratically on the Princes Freeway at 1 pm and attempted to intercept it, but it had quickly sped away.
Eventually, the car smashed into a barrier on Forsyth Road, leading to the death of its 28-year-old female passenger Hayley Dienjes at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital with non–life–threatening injuries, remaining under police surveillance.
He has been remanded and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates‘ Court on the 31st of May.
