Emergency services were called to reports a man had been shot on Rosella Avenue just before 7.30pm AEST.
Police established a crime scene and closed Rosella Avenue between Kookaburra Avenue and Newbury Street for a couple of hours as the investigation got underway.
Victim Taken To Hospital Before Police Arrival
The 24-year-old man was driven to hospital with a minor upper body injury before police arrived at the scene.
It is understood an offender fled the area in a vehicle prior to police attending.
The man’s car was later retrieved from the hospital’s emergency department by tow truck.
Investigators Believe Incident Was Targeted
Investigators have established the man’s injury is superficial and believe the shooting was a targeted incident.
The circumstances surrounding the injury remain under investigation, with detectives continuing to piece together the events leading up to the incident.
The case follows a recent spate of policing activity across Werribee and the wider Wyndham area, including a two-night police blitz that recovered stolen vehicles across the western suburbs, and a machete threat during a Truganina home invasion.
