Man with Handgun Leads to Major Police Operation.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was allegedly seen with a firearm in Truganina on Friday, 4 November.

It is alleged the man, who was driving a stolen vehicle, had a handgun on Leakes Road about 9.50pm.

Police were told three people got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, before the Air Wing spotted one man getting into another car.

Police attempted to intercept the car and stop sticks were deployed, but the vehicle continued to drive through Altona.

During the chase along Queen Street in Altona Meadows, a resident’s car was struck just before they entered their home. A police vehicle went crashing into the residents brick pillared fence and later had to be towed from the scene. 

After running on its rims, the car came to a stop on Mount Street. 

A 31-year-old Altona Meadows woman was arrested at the scene.

A 31-year-old Altona man, believed to be driving the vehicle, fled on foot and was arrested nearby.

They are both assisting police with their enquiries.

Police are continuing to establish the exact circumstances around the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
