Victoria's Big Build Amplifies Summer Roadworks Disruptions
Motorists in the western suburbs are advised to prepare for potential delays due to increased roadworks this summer.
The West Gate Tunnel Project is progressing, which involves the expansion of the West Gate Freeway from eight to 12 lanes. Concurrently, annual maintenance works are scheduled on the West Gate Bridge.
Work is also ongoing to eliminate hazardous level crossings and upgrade the M80 Ring Road. These projects may cause disruptions on key roads and surrounding areas. Therefore, drivers are encouraged to plan their routes, allow additional travel time, or consider alternative routes if possible.
Three lanes heading towards the city on the West Gate Bridge will be unavailable from 9pm on Thursday, December 29 until 6am on Monday, January 4.
The West Gate Freeway will experience closures in one or both directions between Millers Road and Williamstown Road intermittently from early January to early April. The outbound entry ramp from Williamstown Road to the West Gate Freeway will be shut from 9pm, Monday, January 9 until 5am, Monday, April 7.
The West Gate Freeway outbound exit ramp to Millers Road, Brooklyn, will be closed from 9pm, Monday, January 6 until 5am, Monday, February 17, along with the freeway exit ramp to Grieve Parade during the same period.
The M80 Ring Road will be closed overnight in both directions between Boundary Road and the West Gate Freeway on specified dates in January and February.
In Diggers Rest, Watsons Road will remain closed until late 2025 due to level crossing removal works.
