Police use Taser, OC spray and baton to subdue armed man at Williams Landing.
A 36-year-old man from Point Cook has been charged following a violent incident at Williams Landing Train Station on Tuesday, 6 May.
Police allege the man assaulted a 42-year-old Point Cook man with a meat cleaver and threatened a 24-year-old woman, also from Point Cook, at around 4:30pm. Officers say the man then confronted police while still armed, prompting the use of Tasers, OC spray, and a baton to safely bring him into custody.
He has been charged with multiple offences, including assault with a weapon, assaulting police, and committing an indictable offence while on bail. The accused was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 2 September.
The 42-year-old victim sustained minor injuries during the incident.
A witness to the attack has described a terrifying encounter inside the station elevator and on the concourse.
The group reportedly rushed out of the elevator as soon as it opened. The witness took another lift to exit the station and later saw the man running toward the bus stops, allegedly targeting members of the Indian community.
The witness said they have been left mentally distressed.
Police confirmed the weapon used in the attack was a meat cleaver, and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
