"Not Choosing Is Still a Choice"
In a world defined by uncertainty, pressure, and constant decision-making, a Melbourne based behavioural strategist and transformation architect is inviting the community to pause and reflect on a truth many avoid: not choosing is, in itself, a choice. On 1 May 2026, Dr Watceilia Varso will host the launch of her next book, The Door: On Choice, Courage, and the Cost of Change, at The View @ LSV in Port Melbourne. More than a traditional book launch, the evening is designed as an immersive community conversation exploring the invisible patterns that shape how people think, behave, and lead.
At the core of The Door is a powerful idea, that the moments we hesitate, delay, or avoid decisions are often the very moments that define our lives. Drawing from her work across leadership, behavioural strategy, and human transformation, Dr Varso explores how patterns of fear, identity, and conditioning influence choices both personally and professionally.
The book traces its origins back to a contemporary dance production she choreographed in 2007, now reimagined through storytelling grounded in lived experience. Through three central female characters, the narrative reflects deeply personal and often unspoken observations, not as a statement on gender, but as a window into the silent patterns many individuals carry.
Dr Varso, a Behavioural Strategist and Transformation Architect, is the Founder and CEO of Practice Vision~The Art of Re-Engineering®, a Melbourne-based consultancy working with organisations and leaders globally. Her work focuses on rewiring behavioural patterns to enable sustainable growth, stronger decision-making, and more human-centred leadership in complex environments.

The launch will also feature a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from academia and social impact, including Professor Catharine Lumby, University of Sydney, Jeremy Meltzer (Founder and CEO of i=Change), and Professor Kate Ogg from Australian National University . The panel will explore how behavioural patterns influence leadership, identity, and decision-making across both individual and systemic levels.
In alignment with the event’s broader purpose, 50 % of proceeds from book sales on the night will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, reinforcing the message that the ability to choose is not equally accessible to all.
A Wyndham resident since 2018, Dr Varso continues to bridge global expertise with local impact. Through Practice Vision, she also leads initiatives aimed at expanding access to leadership and personal development, including programs that support individuals who may not otherwise have access to such opportunities.
More than a literary launch, The Door represents a broader call to awareness, one that challenges individuals to reflect on the patterns shaping their lives, and the decisions they may be avoiding. Because sometimes, the most defining moment is not the choice we make, but the one we don’t.
“What if the choice, the courage, and the cost of change… is not choosing at all?” Dr Watceilia Varso
