In an effort to provide the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicle users, Wyndham council will install a number of electric chargers across the area as part of a $95,000 State Government grant.
Council installed its first Electric Charger at the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Community Centre in Wyndham Vale in 2020, and now an additional three sites have been nominated to host the EV chargers.
The new 50kW DC Fast Chargers, which are capable of charging two cars at a time, will be installed at the Bembit Bagrook Community Centre in Tarneit North and the Civic Centre in Werribee.
A further location is planned for the Public Carpark at 22 Synnot Street Werribee, where two 22kW AC Chargers will service two parking bays.
Wyndham City Director, Planning and Liveability, Peter McKinnon said, “Wyndham City is committed to taking action on climate change and supporting the Wyndham community as we transition away from fossil fuels.”
“This will assist in providing the much-needed infrastructure required to support a broader uptake of electric vehicles, noting that transport accounts for around 19 per cent of total CO2 emissions across Australia.”
“We see this as the start of a charging network in Wyndham, and we are keen to see more public chargers across the network whether provided by Council or others going forward.”
These chargers will be installed once there is an available hardware supply and a detailed design process has been completed.
