Police allege shooting was a targeted attack

Two men have been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Melbourne’s CBD earlier this month.

Homicide Squad detectives, with help from the Special Operations Group, arrested four men in South Melbourne around 3.20pm on 17 September.

Following interviews, a 23-year-old Doveton man and a 22-year-old Clyde North man were charged with murder. They appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 September.

Two others – a 23-year-old from Keysborough and a 22-year-old from Pakenham – were released without charge, with investigations ongoing.

The charges relate to a shooting on 7 September in Melbourne’s CBD, where 26-year-old Seabrook man Kwar Ater, a local footballer, was found with upper body injuries around 3.40am. He was taken to hospital but died shortly after.

Police allege the incident was targeted and that those involved were known to each other.
