In short:
More than $350,000 has been raised for a proposed Point Cook mosque, with organisers claiming land is secured but not revealing its location. A petition opposing the project has attracted more than 2,000 signatures, though it also provides limited detail about the proposal.
Key Details and Location Not Revealed
A proposed mosque in Point Cook is drawing growing attention — despite no confirmed location or publicly identified planning application.
The project has emerged through an online fundraiser launched by Point Cook Islamic Community Ltd Australia, which is seeking $2.5 million to establish what it describes as the suburb’s first mosque.
The fundraiser, launched through GoFundMe on 15 October 2025, has raised $351,444 so far, including a $190,000 offline donation.
In its description, organisers state:
“Our community is embarking on a historic journey — the establishment of Point Cook’s very first Masjid in Melbourne Australia.”
“With over 4,500 Muslims living in the area and no Masjid to call our own, this is a much-needed and long-awaited project.”
The group states it entered a contract to purchase land valued at $1.48 million, with settlement scheduled for December 2025.
In a 10 March 2026 update, the organiser said the land has now been secured using funds borrowed from the community, with efforts underway to repay it as soon as possible.
However, the fundraiser does not state where the land is located, or whether any planning approvals have been granted.
In response, more than 2,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for the proposed mosque in Point Cook to be reconsidered.
The petition raises concerns about traffic congestion, infrastructure capacity, parking and noise, and claims community consultation has been limited.
Like the fundraiser, the petition does not identify a specific site or reference a formal planning application.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether any proposal has been submitted to Wyndham City Council for assessment.
