Three Very Different Choices

Werribee residents have three very different options to choose from as Wyndham Council searches for a name for its new Riverwalk community centre.

Liberator Community Centre, Platypus Community Centre and Dutchelm Avenue Community Centre are officially in the running, with locals now being asked to pick their favourite.

Each name has a local connection.

Liberator Community Centre recognises the area’s history as a site that once housed B-24 Liberator aircraft, while Platypus Community Centre takes inspiration from the wild breeding platypus population in the Werribee River.

The third option keeps things simple, with Dutchelm Avenue Community Centre named after the centre’s future address at 23 Dutchelm Avenue, Werribee.

The three names follow earlier community consultation, when residents selected “linking the name to a place” as their preferred naming theme and submitted suggestions.

Set to open in 2028 within the Riverwalk Community Precinct, the centre will include a kindergarten for three and four-year-olds, maternal and child health and allied health services, meeting spaces, a community kitchen and areas for events and activities.

Residents can cast one vote for their preferred name, with Council monitoring submissions and IP addresses to prevent multiple entries and spam.

Voting closes at 11.59pm on 21 October 2026.
