New Point Cook South West Town Centre Plans Revealed

The works are part of early infrastructure delivery supporting the future Point Cook South West new community, which includes a local town centre, new schools, residential housing, and community facilities. Two new intersections are being constructed as part of the project:

• Stage 1: Road A and Hacketts Road

• Stage 2: Featherbrook Drive and Hacketts Road

Construction is expected to continue until August 2025. Work hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Residents can expect:

• Installation of barriers along Hacketts Road

• Temporary closure of the footpath and bike lane

• Traffic management signage and line marking

• Increased truck activity in the area

The intersection upgrades currently underway are being delivered in support of new school facilities planned for the Point Cook South West area. While the future Point Cook South West Local Town Centre is proposed nearby, works on the centre itself have not yet commenced. The community will be advised separately once town centre works are ready to begin.

The town centre will feature:

• A supermarket and supporting specialty stores

• Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food outlets

• Commercial and office spaces

• A community facility and a state P–9 school

• A landscaped town square and passive open space with play areas and walking paths

• SOHO (small office/home office) development fronting green open space

Several key design features will enhance the livability and visual appeal of the town centre:

• School and community facility buildings will frame and terminate views along the main street, contributing to the overall activity and character of the area, with entrances orientated towards the main street.

• A local park to the north will serve as a venue for large community events such as concerts, festivals, and markets.

• Off-road pedestrian and cycle paths will link the town centre to surrounding residential areas.

• The main street will feature active frontages that maximise views and sunlight from the north-facing park.

• Car parks will include water collection systems and integrated landscaping.

• A dedicated pedestrian path will run from the local park, through the town square, and into the southern open space, promoting shared parking access.

• SOHO development will place office space along high-visibility locations and provide residential spaces facing green areas.

• The southern passive open space will include an urban destination node with a playground, picnic areas, and a community garden.

• A walking school bus stop will also be included to encourage safe and active school travel.

Designed with walkability and community interaction in mind, the town centre is part of a broader precinct expected to deliver around 2,300 homes and 500 jobs.

Looking Ahead: East Werribee Town Centre

The East Werribee Town Centre, located further north near Sneydes Road, is also part of the same Precinct Structure Plan and will serve as a major employment and activity hub for the region.

Once developed, the town centre is expected to deliver:

• Over 9,000 jobs

• Around 1,000 apartments

• A mix of office buildings, specialty retail, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, and entertainment venues

• Civic and community spaces, including performing arts, health services, and council facilities

• A central town square and a waterfront café/bar precinct adjacent to the Town Centre Lake

• Walkable connections to the future Derrimut train station, bus networks, and cycling routes

The centre will also be framed by the State Research Farm Heritage Park and Botanic Gardens, offering a mix of natural and urban character, with public spaces designed to activate the area both during the day and after hours.

The East Werribee Town Centre is intended to complement the Werribee City Centre and become a key destination in Melbourne’s west.
