New Regional Park For Werribee Progresses

In short:

Plans for the 340-hectare Werribee Township Regional Park are moving ahead, with community input now being sought to shape its design and facilities. The park will sit along the Werribee River and form part of Melbourne’s expanding western green space network.

Part of wider Greening the West plan

The Victorian Government is progressing plans for the new Werribee Township Regional Park, with community consultation now underway to help shape the future of the major public space in Wyndham’s west.

The park will be located along the Werribee River in Wyndham Vale, between Presidents Park and Davis Road, north of the Princes Freeway, and is expected to span over 340 hectares—offering a new destination for recreation, conservation, and cultural connection.

Community members are being encouraged to have their say via a new online consultation hosted on Engage Victoria, which will be open until 17 November 2025. Feedback will be used to inform the park’s concept plan and future facilities.

The project is part of the Greening the West initiative, aimed at improving liveability by increasing access to high-quality green spaces in Melbourne’s west. Once completed, Werribee Township Regional Park will provide a significant addition to the network of regional parks, alongside Werribee Park and the nearby Point Cook Coastal Park.

Parks Victoria, which is leading the project, has indicated the park will deliver a mix of active and passive recreational opportunities, with a strong focus on protecting environmental and cultural heritage values of the site. Early ideas include walking and cycling trails, nature play areas, picnic facilities, and habitat restoration.

The land is already public, and the project builds on a 2010 Government commitment to create the park as part of a broader plan to boost public open space across Victoria. Concept planning is expected to continue into 2026, with funding and staged delivery to follow.
