New station to boost transit and parking in Tarneit’s growing area.
The Victorian Government has released initial designs for a new train station in Melbourne’s western suburb of Tarneit, aiming to improve commuter access in the area.
The station, announced by Transport Infrastructure Minister Danny Pearson, will be located near Davis and Leakes roads. It will include two platforms with an accessible pedestrian underpass to cross the rail line.
Plans for the station include a four-bay bus interchange and a new access road from Leakes Road, along with 400 parking spaces for commuters. Separate pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as a landscaped area with seating and secure bike storage, are also proposed as part of the development. Final designs are expected next year, with construction anticipated to start shortly afterward. The station is projected to open for passengers in 2026.

The community is invited to participate in naming the new station, with options including West Tarneit, Tarneit Rise, Sunray, Davis Creek, and Melaleuca, reflecting local landmarks and surroundings. Feedback on both the design and name can be submitted at engage.vic.gov.au. Additionally, a planning study is in progress for a potential station in Truganina to enhance transport options in the western suburbs.

The project follows recent infrastructure developments, such as the removal of three level crossings in Deer Park and Ardeer, which eliminated boom gates on that stretch and aims to ease congestion and improve safety. In related developments, work is set to commence on removing four level crossings on the Melton Line and constructing a new Melton Station by 2026. Plans continue for the $650 million Melton Line Upgrade, projected to increase line capacity by 50 percent.
