Internet Out in Tarneit: NBN Disruption Leaves Residents in the Dark

Since 7 a.m. on Friday, February 23rd, the Newhaven estate in Tarneit has been grappling with a complete outage of the National Broadband Network (NBN), leaving over 800 households reportedly affected by the disruption.

Residents of the estate have expressed frustration as they endure the blackout, with many unable to work remotely due to the lack of internet connectivity. Mobile networks are also experiencing strain as they bear the burden of increased traffic from residents seeking alternative means of online access.

In a recent development, residents were informed late last night, just before 10 p.m., that a technician had been dispatched to the site. The technician identified a significant portion of the cable, stretching up to 1.5 kilometres, requiring replacement. The repair work is estimated to take an additional three days, prolonging the ordeal for affected households.

Initial communications from NBN Co, the wholesaler responsible for the network, informed residents that investigations into the outage were underway. However, as of now, there have been no further updates on the progress towards resolving the issue.

Raghu Sharma, a resident of the Newhaven estate, reached out to WyndhamTV to express his concerns. Sharma emphasized the lack of detailed information from NBN Co regarding the restoration efforts and highlighted the strain on mobile connections exacerbated by the outage.

As residents continue to grapple with the internet blackout, calls for media attention and intervention to address the situation are mounting, underscoring the urgent need for a resolution to the ongoing connectivity crisis in the Newhaven estate.
