A motorbike rider has been rescued after coming off the Federation Trail in Werribee on Sunday night, ending up off the path in darkness before emergency crews located him.

Ambulance Victoria responded to the incident around 8.35pm on Sunday 14 June. Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics attended and assessed the man at the scene.

The man, in his 40s, had sustained a lower body injury and was transported by road ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) was called to assist at the scene, cutting through a fence to help reach the injured man. The area was described as extremely dark, with CFA lighting brought in to assist emergency crews including police, ambulance and CFA personnel, who reached the man just after 9pm.

According to fire services radio communications, the man was suffering from hypothermia, with overnight temperatures dropping below 10 degrees, and had sustained a fractured femur. It is not yet known how long he had been off the trail before being located, or how emergency services were first alerted to the incident.

This is the latest in a string of incidents involving riders in the Wyndham area, following a motorbike rider airlifted with critical injuries earlier this year.
