Confronting footage has emerged of a nine-year-old girl being hit by a car while riding her bike in Tarneit.
CCTV captured the incident, which occurred on Polly Parade in Tarneit around 5.45pm on Monday 16th of September. The footage shows the girl riding along the footpath before she appeared to leave the path and cross the road. As she crossed, she was struck by a white sedan, which sent her airborne onto the road. It also appeared the girl was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The driver of the car, along with another man and a child, quickly rushed to assist the injured girl.
“Paramedics were called to a collision in Tarneit around 6pm yesterday,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said. “A primary-school-aged girl with upper and lower body injuries was transported by road ambulance to The Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.”
By Tuesday afternoon, the girl remained in stable condition.
Victoria Police were not initially called to the scene but have since opened an investigation. “It is alleged a cyclist and car were involved in a collision. As a result of the collision, a nine-year-old girl was taken to hospital with injuries,” a police spokesperson said. “Police have spoken to the driver and the investigation continues.”
