In short:
Wyndham City Council is investigating parking shortages around Wyndham Vale Station, including permit systems and shuttle options. The move comes as population growth outpaces parking, with no new car park funding confirmed in the latest Victorian Budget.
Parking Chaos Putting Pressure on Community
Wyndham City Council has agreed to investigate parking pressures around Wyndham Vale Station, following ongoing concerns from residents.
The motion, put forward by Cr Peter Maynard, notes limited commuter parking near the station and the impact on surrounding residential streets.
Councillors endorsed a plan directing council officers to explore the introduction of a residential parking permit system, including potential permit costs, for nearby streets.
A report outlining options is expected to be presented to councillors in the second half of the year.
For many years, car parking has not kept up with population growth or train capacity, making commuting in Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes difficult.
Many residents are forced to park in residential streets or in overflow car parks located some distance from the station.
Funding has been allocated in the upcoming state budget for nine-car trains to increase capacity on the line, however no additional funding has been announced for expanded commuter car parking.

The council also acknowledged that some commuters are not using the Hobbs Road commuter car park, citing its distance from the station.
As part of the resolution, council will write to relevant Victorian Government ministers and local MPs requesting a shuttle bus service between the Hobbs Road car park and Wyndham Vale Station during peak periods.
The correspondence will also seek additional safety measures, including regular patrols to improve security for commuters and vehicles.
The decision comes as demand for parking continues to increase in areas surrounding the station.
