Maynard Wins Community Vote
Peter Maynard has emerged as the preferred choice for Wyndham’s next mayor, topping Wyndham TV’s latest community poll following the suspension of Josh Gilligan.
With council set to elect a new mayor after Cr Gilligan’s one-month suspension took effect on 25 February 2026, readers were asked who they would like to see take the chair.
Cr Maynard secured 42 per cent support, well ahead of Susan McIntyre on 25 per cent. Acting Mayor Preet Singh received 9 per cent, with the remaining councillors recording single-digit backing.
Council’s 10 remaining councillors will decide the outcome in the chamber, where a majority of six votes is required to claim the mayoralty. Residents do not have a formal vote in the process.
This is Cr Maynard’s fourth term as a councillor, first elected in 2012. He has previously served as Mayor three times — in 2014-2015, 2017-18 and 2021-22.
The Wyndham TV poll is not binding, but it provides a snapshot of community sentiment as councillors prepare to cast their votes.
